Today, for the first time in weeks, I finally feel like I have a firm hold on life. We finally have a plan about the house and where we’ll be living in it and who will or won’t be living with us. I’m doing laundry, some major cleaning up, and have had some good accomplishments. There are still more major projects on the to-do list vs the done-did list, but maybe my head has finally cleared enough to take it all in.
We’re moving Mom right now into her new apartment, which is a really nice subsidized place meant only for seniors. Her last apartment had an attempted break-in about three weeks ago, and right at the same time, the manager at the senior place called and said they had an opening. We jumped on it, rather than waiting for her lease to expire. Well, actually there was no lease, since the mildly insane landlord wouldn’t let Tyme sign it, and kept forgetting to have Mom sign it. Oh well! We figured we’ll just let him keep his one-month’s rent deposit and call it even.
I’m starting to get booked up for henna gigs, festivals, and semi-weekly jobs. This was overwhelming until I found google calendar, and now that I can see where I’m going to be and when, I feel much better. Now it’s just little jobs, like ordering more henna (gotta do that tomorrow) and reprint more cards (could do that today). Going through a kilo so fast is just plan exhilarating, by the way.
Momma Barb has been going through another round of chemotherapy after they found a small tumor right where her kidney used to be. If I haven’t already asked you to, Please pray for her.
We’re going out of town for nearly a full week, and I need to find a petsitter. The good news is that there seems to be many to choose from. The bad news is… how does one find a good one?? Even if the interview goes well, how do we know the animals will be taken care of while we’re gone? What makes a person honest and responsible? What do we REALLY look for in an interview? Any suggestions?
Our destination is Anaheim, CA. Summit will be held there, which is the annual conference for Tyme’s particular type of work geekiness. He’ll be doing stuff like, ok, well I don’t really know what he does there. All I know is that we’ll be going to Disneyland when he’s done! And I also know that getting ready for Summit has been a huge source of stress in his life.
Somewhere in here, we’re still trying to figure out how to get me back into the studio (which still isn’t a studio, more like a dump room). We solved part of that problem… I had a Hot Date with a great friend of ours whose son needs some music lessons. Over sushi, we planned out a routine where every other week, she will come with her son, and they will watch Carmen for a few hours while I get some studio time in. After that, Tyme will watch Carmen while I give her son and her a music lesson. Then we send them on home to practice what they’ve learned. So that will solve about 1/8th of the time that I’m looking for, but it’s a start!!
Said Hot Date Friend and another excellent friend have also offered to watch Carmen whenever we have a gig on their side of town (Atlanta-ish), so that’s a huge relief, too. And before the Hot Date, she helped me to rearrange and organize the craft room, so that now I can finally go in there and like, use it and stuff. :O Have I mentioned we have incredible friends??
Our Family is awesome, too. My niece came to visit my dad and I got to snag her for a couple of days. She’s such an unbelievable little person. Her Mom is great, too… I talked to her for about an hour and a half about EVERYTHING and felt much more grounded after that.
Side note, but somewhat related: We’ve met some very cool people who live about 10 minutes away. Did you know that Comer, GA, has become a haven for alternative types? We didn’t know that, either! Now go look on googlemaps and see where Comer is in relation to Colbert. Interesting, eh?? I highly recommend you come to Comer on May 10th for Faeryfest, by the way. We’ll be doing henna there! Call me for more details.
So, House. It looks like it’s just going to be us. And that’s ok. We’ll move back into the master bedroom, the office will come back down into the basement and become office/guest room, Carmen will be in the lavender room across the hall from us, and the brown room will be a mini-office/guest room/bar. Can you tell we like us some guests?? If you’re a potential guest, be rest assured now that you will have very comfortable crash space, and plenty of it. Since Carmen just starting to only wake up once a night ( :O ), I think that this is perfect timing. Now if she wakes up before that, it’s because we’re talking or making, uh, other noises. Noises that we would prefer not have to stop making.
There’s more going on, but I think I’m done typing for now. Anywayz, I have some cleaning to do. :) Posted at 11:18 am 12 comments
